A Day in the Life of a Host: CleanHaus Is Built for Moments Like This
Running a short-term rental isn't for the faint of heart. Today was a reminder of why CleanHaus exists and why it’s essential for hosts like myself who are dealing with a thousand moving parts, all at once. From unexpected guest messages to broken hot tubs, the chaos is real. But it’s also a reminder of the vision we’re building at CleanHaus, and where we’re heading.
It started with a mouse
It all started with a message from a guest. Apparently, they spotted a mouse in the house—an all-too-common occurrence in a forested property, but still something that requires immediate attention. We’re building CleanHaus with an AI agent we fondly call Broomy—your personal house assistant. In the future, a guest message would automatically trigger Broomy, who would handle the issue directly instead of me forwarding it to our team. I’d just get a notification. Simple, efficient, and far less back-and-forth. We’re not there yet, but it’s something we’re actively working on with our CleanHaus API, LLM and AI functionality.
Hot tub troubles
Next, I discovered the hot tub’s suction vacuum was broken—another issue to address. Wouldn’t it be great if I could simply tell Broomy to order a new one and have it taken care of? Instead, I had to manually order the replacement. With CleanHaus we’ll eliminate these small, time-consuming tasks and automate them for hosts.
Staffing issues
Then came the news: Trisha, our cleaning team leader, is in the hospital and out for two weeks. Not ideal. But this is exactly the use case CleanHaus is designed for to reschedule tasks, divide the work, and keep everyone on track.
A simple "thanks"
On a more personal note, I texted my wife to send Trisha flowers, and I handed each of the cleaners a tip for their hard work. Here’s where CleanHaus could make a huge impact. We’re building a “Thanks” feature to make it easier for hosts to show appreciation for their teams. It’s not just about money—though that helps—it’s about fostering better relationships and recognizing the hard work of cleaners, especially when they’re going above and beyond.
Where we’re going
Today was a reminder of why CleanHaus exists. It’s not just about organizing tasks—it’s about supporting hosts, cleaners, and the people who make short-term rentals work. We're building a system that not only handles turnovers but helps hosts and cleaners manage the unpredictable nature of this business. The goal is to make all of it simpler, faster, and more efficient.
Want to experience CleanHaus? We just released our CleanHaus beta. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but it’s packed with functionality. We’d be grateful if you’d sign up and give it a try.
